| | | Fungi for ID please Found this one at Crossness today and thought I wouldn't have too much bother identifying it as it looked vaguely familiar. No luck though...
It was about 6-7 cm high and approx 4 cm cap diameter. Cap had a slight bluish green tinge and was very slimy although that may just have been down to the heavy rain overnight. No distinctive odour, it smelled very faintly of button mushrooms from the supermarket.
I may not be improving at IDing them for myself but you have to admit I'm getting better at giving you guys a fighting chance!

| | | Re: Fungi for ID please It's familiar because we found it at Clumber and you spent about three and a half hours in front of it with a camera
It's one of two Stropharia. The two I have in mind are S. aeruginosa and S. caerulea which can be difficult to separate. However, I'd say yours are rather pallid and lack distinctively white veil remnants, thus leading me to the latter of the suggested species. Your mushroom shows no ring either, or at least no evidence of an otherwise distinctive ring, which supports S. caerulea
I think this is Stropharia caerulea mate
You might be interested to read about the discussion about these two species in ongoing debates over recent identifications. You can find them below in provided links See both; Stropharia sp
...and Unknown Mushrooms
Hope that helps aid future ID for this species |

Actually I have a very good memory, I just can't quite remember where I left it...
Joking aside, you're spot on - it is S. aeruginosa that it reminded me of. What threw me was that the Clumber ones had funnel shaped caps whereas this one is convex. But that's just an age thing, right? And anyway, this one is S. caerulea.
Cheers!
