| | | Re: Bracket fungus. But what one? This looks similar to one growing on an Ash near to me although it's white underneath. I noticed that last winter, it was black and actually fell off but it has grown back and is quite young. Would this be Beefsteak too?

You will find it on ash WoodNymph. The young specimen will feel like steak when pressed and ooze blood red if cut.
The species is often home to certain types of beetle in their transformation from egg to adult. It's quite short-lived and turns darker and woody as it matures.
