| | | Amanita and Postia query Can anyone help please.
I thought this one might be a Russula but the free gills with intermediate lamellae steered me towards Amanita. Could it be a young A.fulva or A.vaginata? Don`t be misled by the log on which it rests, I put it there, it was actually growing in soil in mixed woodland.
The second one was a small white bracket growing on what are step risers probably made from 300x50 softwood (could be imported). I`m thinking on the lines of Postia stiptica but could it be some type of Antrodia?
Thanks very much
Pete

Bit useless really aren't I?
I know what the bracket is, but I really can't think of its name. It's not in Phillips.

the bracket could be Antrodia serialis which is comonly found on wood used for construction ie. steps.

Pete | Hi Pete
your second one looks very similar to one i found some time ago, which was identified on here as Postia ptychogaster (see post "fence post fungi" 6/10/08)
dont know if it is the same one, but as i said , it looks very similar.

So the evidence is stacked up in favour of P.cervinus except for the substrate and there is only one person who could be absolutely certain of this and he is`nt. Very sorry to have misled you Nick but on reflection, I probably removed it from a wood substrate, (I will try to be more careful).
Many thanks to you both

| | | Re: Amanita and Postia query No need to apologise Pete, it's easy to be oblivious to the fact that you're removing a specimen from buried wood. I've done it many a time | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
