Help!
I'm going blind wandering through my fungi books, trying to at least make a start with this one.
Under mixed woodland with grassy meadow substrate, frequent, in groups but not too close together.
Light tan cap, ageing to brown and cracking, white gills and stem.
No discernable unusual smell, just mushroomy.
it must be common, but its lost me.
Thanks in anticipation!
Ken

despite it tending to the 'brownish' rather than the 'greyish', I think this is Clouded Funnel Clitocybe nebularis, the bloom on the right hand one looks typical
quite a lot of it around at the moment
best wishes
Chris

I would agree, not C. nebularis, but more likely Inocybe or even Entoloma.

yes just had another look and I clearly got the scale completely wrong, when compared to surrounding leaves . . .
I'm probably not allowed another go . . . . but I would tend towards Entoloma, not Inocybe
yours sheepishly

| | Re: id fungi help Thanks all,
thats absolutely great (I mean it) at least I can now do some focused research and sort it.
I am off there tomorrow, helping lead a walk, so will have a closer look at themm and hopefully resolve this!

| | Re: id fungi help (part 2) Well, further to the above!
Went back today after the walk, got wet, but . . . . . still no smell other than mushroomy, but noticed gills are tending to pink, so heres another effort:-
Narrowing down the options, rather than Entoloma, Inocybe seems favourite from comparisons in Philips and Jordans books.
Following a vaguely strictly come dancing approach, my top three are - I. Adeaquata, Piriodora then Erubescens(patouillardi) and once more , grateful for further advice/help.
Getting there slowly.
Cheers
Ken

Not to dishearten you or anything mate, but there are a select few genuses that house species that you simply cannot identify without a microscope and lots of experience. Both Inocybe and Entoloma are included in that. I am absolutely useless at both species, and even attempting to learn about them is difficult due to the sheer range in microscopically difference.
So I don't know if you're right or not, but as I've been told many a time, you can't identify by a photo alone, and this is a good example. I am fully prepared though, for someone else on here to come along and give you a genus and a species! Definitely down to personal field experience
