| | Re: id fungi help Totally agree Nick - good old Roger mentions that most Inocybes cant be ID'd without microscopical spore examination, so I knew I was pushing it a bit!
Just thought we might have an aha! moment out there from someone, with now knowing the gills discolouring from cream to pink and the splitting cap tan to brown as it ages.
Oh well.
Need to see more to gain that Inocybe experience I guess, but it all helps build up knowledge. I can remember going through this with birds over 40 years ago -you can't easily explain to a newcomer that experience counts for so much!
Thanks again.
Ken

it's looking more and more like an Entoloma to me; if it were an Inocybe the gills would be browner by now: that pink surely points to Entoloma - possibly one of the 'collybioid' ones; a spore print would sort that one out
regards
Chris

Thanks to everyone, if I sort it via a local expert I will let you know.

Ken | Hi Ken,
bit of a shot in the dark, but it does vaguely(and stress vaguely)resemble a tricholoma sp. but the pink gills dont seem to match any of them do they?
and they do seem to grow in groups like yours. |

and they do seem to grow in groups like yours. | This thread runs on . . . . grateful for views - I can see what you mean, there are some strong similarities in looks, but Entoloma seems a good bet, especially with gills going to pink colouration from cream, with Clypeatum a front runner - need spore examination though!
Cheers

the trouble is Entoloma clypeatum is very much a spring species . . . I know that there are some Sept into Oct. records, but suspect some of these may be errors; Entoloma is a huge genus (around 250 different ones in Britain and Ireland!), and the chief features for all but a relatively easily recognizable few are, unfortunately, microscopic; and even then not always easy . . .
best wishes
Chris

| | Re: id fungi help Cheers Chris, yes I know its an early one, so I'm not claiming it! That would be far too presumptuous at this point.its the closest I can find though and will form a basis for ongoing efforts.
Just had a trip round the pine woods at Dovestones - full of fungi in there, including some parachutes and miniscule orangey cups and very miniature jellies on pine twigs - will do some thinking then post them for help - I know you like little uns.
Cheers
Ken
