| | | Re: Ink Cap???? and others Ok looking at the ink cap i would say it looks like a Coprinus domesticus but acording to roger mushroom these are less then 5cm The cap on this mushroom was around 7cm across (at the bottom), the stem was around 10 - 11cm in hight |

| | | Re: Ink Cap???? and others hi
the top one looks more like Coprinus truncorum (more properly Coprinellus truncorum now) rather than the much commoner C. micaceus but I would want to check the spores #2 probably in the Macrolepiota area - it's a group I don't know very well #3 sorry . . . #4 hatching magpies, cool!
cheers
Chris

3) melanophyllum sp. maybe | I don't think it's lagopus veil wrong, colour wrong
and I'm not quite sure where Melanophyllum comes from . . . there are only two Melanophyllums in the UK and both have warty caps (very distinctive cuticle cells); this looks very smooth
regards
Chris

Chris | Thanks for the insight... if it helps with number two the mushrooms had strong garlic smell.. or at least it reminds me of garlic. |

Chris | I looked in my collins book and found melanophyllum and it had the triangular fronds hanging down from the cap like the one in the photo. |

| | | Re: Ink Cap???? and others Just going to throw something in the mix.
I don't think number four looks like immature Coprinus picaceus. I think they look more like immature versions of number two. I know I've never seen C. picaceus first hand but I've seen plenty of images at all stages of development and never have I seen them with scales protruding quite like that. The scales have a brown tinge, roughly the same hue as the ones shown on the specimen in your second image. Plus, the second specimen in from the right is damaged and is showing a white inside. (I know C. picaceus has this, but as soon as it's vulnerable to the air, it'll start autodigesting. It looks dry.)
Scouring the books for your second (and possibly fourth) genus, and it's proving difficult.

| | | Re: Ink Cap???? and others I think this could be very interesting Ian.
Your second and fourth images are of something pretty good. It might be common as muck, it might be rare, but whatever it is, I've got a mental image of it and I'll come away from this thread with a little more knowledge to use in future, and that is always good | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
