If you've got a rook in Chess, it's definitely a rook. Sure there are variations from set to set, but it'll always be a rook. It doesn't only grow on a certain species of Chessboard, it doesn't decay making it harder to ID because a rook is a rook.
Same for a Pawn,
Same for a Bishop...
