| | | Lepista Saeva (Field Blewitt)? ID please I was hoping to post photos so that someone could ID these - but I am not sure how ID is possible without being able to post external photos. Any ideas?
The full sized mushrooms I have are 15-16 cm diam, growing in grass in groups on heathland, several groups in the area (a ring?). Beige/grey/brown colouring - paler at the edges, cream gills - but no evidence of lilac on stems. Absorbs water from grass. They seem to be identical to field blewitt but have no lilac. Any ideas?
Thanks |

You need to upload your photos to the Gallery but in the meantime just check on photos in the Gallery for Clitocybe nebularis (Clouded Funnel) this might just be your find.

| | | Re: Lepista Saeva (Field Blewitt)? ID please Thank you Mal. I am not sure about the Clitocybe. I have now uploaded three photos under unidentified fungi. Please see what you think.
Thanks, Mandy |

The photos show all the relevant details. Dark grey cap lighter towards the edge looking almost powdery in places in-rolled edge in the young fruitbodies wavy edge in the older specimen. Pale crowded decurrent gills. You did manage to cut off the bulbous base of the stem but personally I think you have Clitocybe nebularis.

| | | Re: Lepista Saeva (Field Blewitt)? ID please I looked at this at lunchtime and couldn't make a decision. The cap looks very brown, particularly in the younger specimen.
I don't know |

| | | Re: Lepista Saeva (Field Blewitt)? ID please I try to look at as big a picture as possible, (metaphorically speaking), taking in as many facts as possible. E.G. quite often when I`m researching a find, an example comes up on the forum. Presumably because similar conditions around the country, cause particular fungi to occur at the same time. What I`m getting at is that Clitocybe nebularis has been much in evidence recently where I live. I`m not citing this fact as conclusive evidence but you have to be quite a detective with mycology sometimes!
Cheers

Mal | From the photos I'd go with Clitocybe nebularis too. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
