| | | Re: white fungi id yes almost certainly Crepidotus variabilis there is a very similar fungus called C. cesatii the main difference (I'm afraid) is that the latter has globose spores very different from variabilis
dry one gently and pm me - I'll send you an address to which you can post it
I'll post an image of C. cesatii later on today

You will (should) never get jumped on for making an educated guess. If you can back up your idea with information either first hand or from a good book you will usually not be far off. You may not be right as I know only too well, a lot of my id's were and still are proved to be duff . I think the problem we have had on some of the other threads has been the suggestions have been so wide of the mark. I think it is better to give no ID at all rather than a out and out guess. I would be surprised if everyone agrees with that but it is what I feel anyway.

| | | Re: white fungi id Hi, I don't want to hijack leifus's thread but, seeing as he now has an ID , - is this one also C.variabilis?
Found on a twig on the ground under oak and beech. The twig had hundreds of these smal fungi on, the largest were only 7mm across
Thanks Shirley |

Mal | Hi Mal,
its not the fact that they are getting jumped on for making wild guesses ,its more the manner in which they are being jumped on that is the concern,
after all ,to the person making the "wild guess" it may not appear to be such a "wild guess" from their viewpoint,(been there ,done that )
simple courtesy and a bit of helpful guidance will do more good to nurture a good healthy forum membership than any other approach(i hope)
as i said in a previous post lets all keep it friendly and all enjoy this great forum, lets hope the guilty few realise this and make an effort in the future,we cant all be experts (one of which im not and dont think i ever will be)
