| | | Weeken Fungi - idea of ID would be nice Hi,
new to the site (Hello!). Am OK on ID of Boletes, and common "mushrooms", but looking to spread my knowledge wider. Have Phillips' excellent reference book. Gathered these at the weekend. Any suggestions? I thought Common Funnel Cap, but too grey, or Clouded Agaric, but too funnelled.
Cap: grey / light brown, skin easily peeled. Pronounced funnel shape. Margin slightly inrolled, wavy. No milk. Smooth. Slight radial banding in darker colour.
Stem: Solid - no voids. Slight thickening to base. Vertical banding.
Gills: Cream coloured, decurrent, fine, closely spaced, no forking or branching.
Flesh: White. No discolouration of bruising when cut. Firm.
Spores: Cream / pale yellow on white paper.
Smell: Pleasant mushroomy smell, pronounced.
Habit: Grass / leaf litter. Not obviously growing on dead wood, but mixed undergrowth. Deciduous woodland - under a hawthorn, but oak, beech, birch and hazel close by.
Thanks gurus! |

I agree with Nick; and may I say how welcome it is when someone has made notes like those you have and taken subsidiary photo's - it can make life much easier
regards

Thanks very much for that - nice that I appeared to be on the right track! I'll check the same spot next year, and see how they look when younger. Any idea if edible - one book says aye, the other says nay!?!
I'm flattered that you found my description useful.
Thanks again.

L | Never mind next year there is still lots of time to find these again in pristine condition. With notes like that you are much more likely but unfortunately not guaranteed to get an ident on your finds.
