Atropupurea has a dark purple cap and grows in grass near various trees
The blewit has lilac gills and grows in soil in mixed woodlands.
Growing on wood with this dark shiny streaked cap is definitely a Pluteus cervinus.

| | | Re: Russula atropurpurea or wood blewit If I could whizz back a couple of years when I got my copy of Phillips, I would also buy (or ask for as a present) Michael Jordan's excellent book too. Two years on, and I still haven't got it. Perhaps I should buy it this weekend
The two of those books will take you far, and will also help anyone realise that much literature on fungi contradicts other literature! Phillips and Jordan are a good example. The distribution listed of certain species differs between books, but it broadens your ideas of things.
It'll all come together like a puzzle |
