I remember many years ago leading a foray for the public with a mate and these two elderly ladies muttered darkly about scientific names and why couldn't everything have an English name?
so we started making them up, giving what we thought was a huge clue that it was all a bit of a wind-up by calling everything 'fairies' something
so they were told this was a fairies' pitchfork, that a fairies' picnic table, those were fairies' cocktail cabinets and so on - did they twig? did they heck
IT ALL WENT INTO THEIR NOTEBOOKS

its a good job I am learning fungi in Latin then because with these new names means changing the older ones!  |
