I can confidently say that this isn't an Amanita and that Ian is correct in his initial genus suggestion of Agaricus. Amanita echinocephala is very white, maybe with a slight yellow/green tinge. The base of the species tends to root quite deeply and has quite a long 'bulb'. The cap has quite distinctive white warts on too.

| | | Re: Agaric of some kind ,Maybe??? I know, Haven't managed to get out foraying/foraging for a few weekends - getting itchy fungi fingers! Last one I saw were some just gone over (GRRR!) Boletus edulis.
Completely wrong with the Amanita there but at least now I know that Agaricus can have white gills - or at least when they are young. |
