| | Foreign field ID? Ok - I wimped out today because it was cold, wet and windy up here in my northern loacale. But I dug out the pics from my trip to France 3 years ago next week. So here are some pics I hope you enjoy. I apologise for no names on the specimens but if anyone can supply?
the local market in Millau had plenty
including loads of ceps
which inspired us to go shrooming
we drove up onto the "causse" (i think that is like the moors) and spotted this 20 mtrs from the road - must have been at least 6" or 15 cm across
A mile or so further down the road there was space to pull in so we went on a hunt. The amount of fungi in the vicininty here left us blown away! An example of a huge "champignon de paris" by my shoe and hand. and
As many of you may know, in France, you can take your collection to the local chemist/pharmacy and they will identify your collection as "bon" or "toxique". We had a nice selection to fry up............. Delicious
But I was still left with these two to identify - the first was up on the Causse where I collected the edibles but left in situ
and this very pretty collection at Castlenau Pygarols 44degrees 7min 48.1 N - 2 degrees 59 min 48.9E these were 4" - 100ml across - open to suggestions? |

I also didn't include the long shot I should have - before the shoe and hand shot |

I didn't know the name of the lettuce
Just out of interest , were all those fungi "wild" picked ?

| | | Re: Foreign field ID? Not bought on the market though they were available. All the ones in the pan fry up picture were collected wild in a 500 mtr diamter of 44degrees, 2' 13.1" N - 3degrees 15' 26.6E (use goole earth/flash earth or similar), checked in with local experts prior to pan frying. And 3 years down the line still here to tell the tale. |

| | | Re: Foreign field ID? Without going through the books, I'd say they look like a sort of Wood Mushroom but growing in a field.
Neil.
Edit. Sure enough, when you click Wood Mushroom, a smooth cap version is shown !
