| | Boletus - ID help Hi all,
probable boletus I think, but maybe russula or paxillus - confused!
Anyone able to help with this one?
Growing on a lawn, but under oak and sycamore in an old garden.
There appears to be some scurfyness on the cap and the stem has been yellow before the raspers got to work I think.
Its also very solid/hard, but no clear smell.
It may become clearer as it appears more, but for now ? ? ?
Thanks

Hi Ken,
No, this is immature Armillaria sp with the partial veil still attached to the cap margin. Once mature you will see that it has gills as opposed to pores beneath.

yes, do you think the scurfiness i mentioned will presumably be more like scalyness on the cap and the yellowing at the stem base is right too - so possible A. Mellea? honey fungus?
I'll keep watching for development and gills etc - this shot is just emergent from beneath some newly laid flags, so that would explain some disfigurement too, fighting their way out!
When inexerienced, its always quite dificult unless you see a fully emerged specimen!
thanks

Ken | Ken,
Yes, there will scaling on the top when they are more mature, the species looks more likely to be A. gallica and not A. mellea but much the same except generally more robust its a Honey Fungus never the less.
