| | | Identify this mushroom I don't know a great deal about fungi, so your help is appreciated.
It was on its own in long grass beside a haystack. It measured over 20cm tall, cap about 10cm wide.
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Identify this mushroom Uh oh - quick lesson on identifying fungi please...
Spore colour? How do I go about that?
Which brings me to the question of what is the best way to present unidentified fungi on here? I have noticed that others have picked the mushroom and photographed it so that you can see the underside.
As there was only one of my mushroom, I don't want to pick it. |

As there was only one of my mushroom, I don't want to pick it. | Thats fine, leave it be. To get a spore print. White card, hole in the middle, place stem through, rest cap on card, place over receptacle with water up to base of stem, ( glass or jar will do) cover the cap with a coffee lid or something similar.
When taking shots of fungi, in focus shots of cap, gills and stem are of great importance. Info on habitat, any smell, and any change of colour due to bruising is also very useful.
Have fun.
