| | | Stumped! Maybe Cortinarius sanguineus These ones I found in a VERY dark conifer plantation in the New Forest. They were growing on a stump and had a fantastic blood red colour. The plantation was so dark that there was no way I was going to be able to get a photo so put them in one of the mesh pockets on my rucksack to photograph once out in the light again and forgot.
Unfortunately by the time I remembered them they were a little worse for wear and had lost a lot of colour. Anyway here are two photos one made brighter for what detail remains and the other to give a better representation of colour.
Had not much luck trying to key them out, then thought that with such a striking colour they're bound to be called 'blood-something' so did a search on the Rogers website and think I have the best match so far in Cortinarius sanguineus. Am I anywhere near?
