| | | Unidentified Agaricus? Hi, I found the attached mushroom growing in moss covering a shale outcrop in an area of mixed woodland in Powys.
Cap diameter approximately 80mm, the flesh is white, bruising slightly yellow.
Faint smell of almonds/marzipan
Any suggestions?

| | | Re: Unidentified Agaricus? I find the Agaricus species can be tricky, but I'll stick my neck out and go for silvicola as you mention 'with mixed woodland'.

| | | Re: Unidentified Agaricus? Thanks Neil,
A. silvicola was the one that seemed closest from the books, I was doubtful only because it is described in Phillips as smelling of aniseed and this definitely smells of almonds, however I've since found other descriptions on the net that say almonds.
