| | | Very interesting small mushroom. Hi guys and girls,
I spotted one of these this morning. It was in wet grass with Pines nearby. The soil was quite peaty. Upon spotting this, I thought it could be Hygrocybe, because the cap was rather waxy, but then when I plucked it and noticed the dark and scurfy stipe, my mind wandered to Mycena. The gills are a little fainter in colour than the pileus.
The most distinctive thing about this species was the smell. It was absolutely amazing. No joke, it smells extremely strongly of... of... BUBBLEGUM What's up with that?! No joke! Whatever it is, I think it's a stunning little species.
I'd appreciate as much help as I can get on this one! I'll report back with spore info later on.
Taaaaa!

Fruity smell, grows in grass.
Sore print pink.
Edit - possibly several other synonyms and also called aromatic pinkgill due to colour of older gills.

| | | Re: Very interesting small mushroom. That looks like you've nailed it completely. That's stunning, thank you.
The only problem is, I can't find any decent references to it online. Where are you getting your information from? |

| | | Re: Very interesting small mushroom. Hi Nick - in my Collins guide it's Nolanea icterina - very confusing.
Other info. - often in boggy places, rare ( ), inedible, spores broadly ellipsoid, angular, 10-12x6.5-8, non-amyloid.

I found my 1st and only record of Entoloma icterinum growing on a soil heap with nettles near to Woodbridge, Suffolk 23rd Sept 2001. It had a peculiar smell and taste but couldn't name it until it turned up again one month later at Brandon Country Park.
Jonathan Revett was able to put a name to it and that is when I realised what the distinctive smell and taste was - Bubble Gum, as you say Nick!!
According to FOS vol. 4 the smell is of amyl acetate, what ever that is, but I thought they stopped making Bubble Gum yonks ago, how come you know what it smells like ?!!
