Well, this is a beauty regardless of its identity! I'm glad I found it, and I hope we do get an ID because I've never seen anything like it.
Let's start with the 'must knows';
Growing in moss in a Beech/Oak mixture. Pines were about 20 foot away, so there might just be an association. There was no distinctive smell to these specimens, just a little mushroomy

The two that I found ranged between 30mm and 40mm in length and had a closed cap diameter of roughly 10mm. I'm yet to have a look at the spores, but I fear that I'll not get much closer. I've tried keying it out, and I've reached
C. fervidus, but there's so little information on the species that I can't really be accurate with it. I'm pretty sure it's part of the
Dermocybe sub-genus. The gills were rust brown/ochre, but we all know that doesn't really help!
Photographs in situ and to show cortina and stipes (which do have a faint red banding on);
They're very intriguing and interesting. I'll post back with Microscopic information tomorrow, but I fear the spores are just going to be the usual elliptical ones
All help, suggestions and immediate ID's without question appreciated
