| | | Perhaps Cortinarius crocolitus The top of this mushroom is slimy/sticky. From a picture I have in my book it looks like it could be Cortinarius crocolitus, but that is based only on 1 simple picture and a basic description. But I can't find anything on WAB about it, so I fear I may be way off the mark....
Anyone got any other possibilities?
Thanks

| | | Re: Perhaps Cortinarius crocolitus You've absolutely no chance of getting a Cortinarius ID without masses more information I'm afraid- including very detailed macroscopic and microscopic details. There are literally thousands of species in the genus and many, many of them are very similar and most definitely (unless a very distinctive species - C. bolaris for example) one of the most difficult to ID genuses. The more info the better- you could have all of the smells, tastes, substrates and spore info and still not be close. |

I guess I'll stay clear of trying to ID it! |

| | | Re: Perhaps Cortinarius crocolitus No need to dishearten yourself from trying to ID this genus- even when considering everything. You did the best thing- put it on WAB! |

Do you think this is Cortinarius sp, even if I can't narrow it down further?

| | | Re: Perhaps Cortinarius crocolitus Going by photograph number one, then I would (Bulbous base which is a different colour) have thought Cortinarius. I think it is, but it's one of the ones that all look very similar |
