| | Shaggy Inkcap? Hi
This is my first post in this forum. I think these are Shaggy Inkcap but I have never seen them so large. They are at least 10 inches high. I could not get in to the area so the photo is through a gate from approx 18ft.
picture will be posted shortly

Andy | I've yet to search my garden. I am only next door so in with a chance
I knew they were edible but not at what stage. Have you eaten them? What are they like? |

| | | Re: Shaggy Inkcap? I tried these years ago - my recollection was they were very watery.
Not sure if I'm right, but I think these have a tendency to grow where dogs have a piddle.

| | | Re: Shaggy Inkcap? I've eaten them and they are delicious if cooked in a delicate way. Poaching in milk is quite common but I prefer them covered in egg, flour and black pepper fried in olive oil until brown- a nice batter. |

And thanks Andy and Fairplay for your replies | I've been looking for Shaggy Ink Caps ever since I heard about the battered and fried recipe on this forum because I thought it sounded delicious too. Needless to say they've all been hiding from me since . Neil's comment about dogs piddling has tempered my desires somewhat .
These fungi are really noticeable from a distance in the grass which is their usual habitat. I have a fond childhood memory of seeing them far away from the window of my house and insisting that my mum take me to investigate. And that was when I was starting to becoming short-sighted and needed glasses!

| | | Re: Shaggy Inkcap? I must admit I was told where these were; I have been driving passed them all week and not noticed them!! I know what you mean about shortsightedness.
Not sure about Neil’s comment on dogs piddling, I have 2 dogs but no Shaggy Inkcaps in my garden so it could be a myth. It would not put me off eating them but then nothing puts me off my food | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
