| | | Orange Fungi Identification found growing in leaf litter under beech trees this morning in clumber,
a trawl through all my books has not come up with anything like a near match to this one at all,
its fairly small (40/50mm across)and just two of them growing,no unusual smell to it,

using the keys in jordans encylopedia points to some genus but none seemed to fit this one correctly. |

This is Laccaria proxima with characteristic scaly cap.

thanks for that, if you are right ,(i hope you are!  ) thats three different laccarias under the same tree!!
the descriptions of L.proxima in both Phillips and Jordans books seem miles away,just goes to show how variable these things can be,
the suggestion by Nick for tubaria didn't seem to far away either,
