| | | Bracket Fungi Identification? I found this this large fungi morning growing from a tree at just over head hight. It is very white underneath and grey/white on top.
Is it possible to make a positive id from the photo? |

| | | re: Bracket Fungi Identification? I'd say Oyster Mushroom, but there are a number of similar species. I'm sure an expert will be along to ID it soon.

| | | Re: Bracket Fungi Identification? I think we can only say it is a Pleurotus species from what is shown here, and that it is possible to speculate that it may be ostreatus.

They made a very nice meal. Lightly sautéed, added double cream and reduced slightly, then over al dente Penne and sprinkled with good Parmesan. Delicious! |

| | | Re: Bracket Fungi Identification? Even though in this case the fungus you've questioned for ID is fairly distinctive, I really don't recommend using an internet forum to identify for consumption. It's a dangerous business if you don't know what you're looking at- when you do, it's a joy...but just be careful |

| | | Re: Bracket Fungi Identification? I absolutely agree with Nick on this point. You only have to read the papers to discover what a deadly business eating wild fungi is.
Although I've often wondered if there are any bracket fungi that are poisonous? I don't know of any.
