| | | A couple of queries from Darwin Forest I`m pleased for the Clumber foray, seems like a good time by one and all. I was surprised it was dry on saturday as I was a little further south and it drizzled all day, (Peak Distr.)
I had a right bagful over the weekend at Darwin Forest (Matlock). Is anyone familiar with it? but as usual my ID rate was abysmal.
Here are a couple I could do with help on...
This one was growing on soil in mixed woodland but not particularly close to any one tree. I can`t get any sort of a start on it.
I thought this could be Tremella sp... its growing on a dead birch limb
Cheers

1 - could be Clitopilus prunulus (The Miller)
2 - could be Tremella mesenterica
But I am not good at making an ID from photo's. Best wait for the experts! |

Pete | Hi there,
Certainly looks like The Miller, to be sure take a spore print, it should be pink brown for [i]Clitopilus/I]. The second is Tremella foliacea Parasitic. On the mycelium of Stereum spp. on deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs.

I`ve had a look at some other pics that I took and The Miller looks very good for the first one. Re the Tremella foliacea; interestingly Evans & Kibby describes it as common, while Michael Jordan describes it as rare? Roger Phillips does not list it. Could it be a washed out T. mesenterica

| | | Re: A couple of queries from Darwin Forest Not T. mesenterica at that size and structure. You can see the brown tinge to it- The washed out version of T. mesenterica (which was formerly thought to be a separate species- Tremella lutescens) is transparent with a slight yellow tinge. Tremella foliacea is a good find regardless of distribution. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
