That has to be one for Kew I'd say - unless you can Google it.
It's not exactly an easy size to illustrate in books is it. !!

| | | Re: Unknown Cordyceps I finally got round to trying to identify the last of my finds today and guess what a "typhula" in one of the pots turned out to be another of the cordyceps
I can understand how something like C. militaris can just sit in the ground and wait for a few unsuspecting victims and so you get a few fruit bodies in the same area. This Cordyceps attacks the flies and they must travel a long way before scumming to the fungus so what are the chances that two are within a few feet?

That is just what I thought and saw pretty good comparisons on the net but the Checklist says that this is not a British species
One of the specimens is dried and waiting to go to Kew.

I've just seen it on a BMS red data list as vulnerable in Britain

| | | Re: Unknown Cordyceps Just heard back from Kew and it is "actually Hymenostilbe muscarium, uncommon, but maybe overlooked, on various diptera. Considered anamorphic Cordyceps, but apparently not linked to any teleomorph".
