| | | could this be cystolepiota hetieri ???? Could this be cystolepiota heteri ??
It was growing in large clustered groups on a pile of leaf litter , the largest one was about ½ inch across the cap and about ½” tall ,
Both cap and stem were covered with whitish granular pieces, they turned a faint pinkish colour when bruised, and had a mushroomy smell .

Brian. | Hi Brian
I'm awaiting confirmation from Kew about these. Nick suggested Leucocoprinus cepistipes. See Fungi growing on leaf mould at Clumber Park
They have been growing on this leaf litter since early august. If you look carefully at them next time you will notice that some are growing from small pieces of woodchip but most (>80%) are on leaf litter mulch. So it looks like we have a new substrate recording for Clumber!
btw Did you notice the earthstars nearby?

John | Hello John,
i missed your earlier post on these( i didn't join wab until september), i take it that the pile of leaf litter is the one in front of a group of beech trees (one with a large branch fallen) across from the barbecue area on lime tree avenue ?, there were several species growing on the pile at the time including puffballs - amythst deceiver -a couple of earthstars as well -and what i thought at the time was a parasol species of which i am now not sure!
i found these some time back (end of aug - early sept) and put them in my unknown list ,and while taking another look at my unknown pics this morning i noticed the pictures of cystolepiota hetieri in phillips book and the description seemed to fit them ,
i look forward to hearing what kews findings are on these ,
thanks , Brian
p:s are they still growing on the pile ? ive not been down that end of clumber for a week or so as the carburton end has so much fungi at the moment!! |

| | | Re: could this be cystolepiota hetieri ???? That’s the one Brian, just to the right of the barrier pole in the direction of the crossroads. It’s very rare not to find something in this area! The Leucocoprinus cepistipes were still there last weekend.
The parasol fungus you mentioned is probably lepiota aspera which I first found there on 13_08_08.
Carburton end is always very good. Also, if you haven’t visited Carburton Hills and Carburton Alders I suggest paying them a visit …. Stunning!
btw are you there for the WAB foray? I can't remember if I sent you the map / routes.

John | Hi John,
i'll try and get up there tomorow and see if i can get some better photos, as my originals are a bit out of focus ,
i've been keeping away from the carburton hills area since the motocross boys have found it and have been chewing the paths up
would these be the lepiota aspera that you found on the leafmould pile ??
unfortunately some one had uprooted the two smaller ones when i found them
its doubtfull if i'll be able to make either saturday or sunday ,
but if i get the chance, i've got the routes and might catch up with you somewhere along the way ,as i'm only just down the road in worksop.
thanks again ,
