| | | Unknown Agaricus Hi
I came across this small (5cm cap) in mixed woodland. No strong smells no colour change on cutting
Thanks
Mal
Ps while I was investigating I noticed Xanthadermus is one the Red Data List has anyone any idea why when it is so common |

| | | Re: Unknown Agaricus Caps look quite ' Augustus' like, but the long stipe and the small caps would suggest otherwise. Interesting |

| | | Re: Unknown Agaricus Hi Mal,
Been really busy with Ramblers committee meetings etc. and now I have to go to Thetford Forest to attend a Suffolk Local Access Forum meeting and won't be back home till 11pm.
I'm only saying hello really as I'm not so hot on Agarics, but just going by pictures only in Phillip's, how about A.bresadolanus ?
Must rush,
Neil.
P.S. Ha, you have 2 replies all of a sudden !!
And since you're 'on air' Nick - it's Forestry Commission High Lodge I'm off to.

| | Re: Unknown Agaricus Checkout Agaricus impudicus Mal, it's not listed in Phillips but can look similar to a small A. Augustus with a smaller cap and longer stem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agaricus_impudicus |

Yours fits in very well with Agaricus bresadolanus with respect to the rooting strands - described in 'Fungi of Britain and Europe' - Stefan Buczacki.
Still a good find ... whatever we have

..and here's some online examples, http://www.apasseggionelbosco.it/for...1187802329.jpg http://www.apasseggionelbosco.it/for...1187802645.jpg http://www.ambmuggia.it/forum/upload...1190049403.jpg
..and the distinctive smell was of "chocolate" from an example I found!!
It would be nice to get this one nailed, I'll add Agaricus bresadolanus to my lookalike a Prince cap though John.. thanks.

You were right with impudicus The spore sizes the number of lamellae and lamellulae, the size of the annulus, the none staining flesh and the long narrow rhizomorphs (which I hadn't even noticed until they were pointed out ) all fit so impudicus it is.
Thanks again
