I saw something very similar near the weir at Stony Stratford - in that instance the tree was Crack Willow.

Bruce  | Hadn't realised you were so close Bruce - in fact you saw the very same tree!
I was up there last month catching Signal Crayfish with the EA and the MK Parks Trust. Sight of this tree meant that we ended up discussing fungi tho too
