| | | Small but perfectly formed - Inocybe? Little Stones, Anston 28 Sept 2008
On a foray with wildlifesnapper, Neil, found growing in grassland on limestone.
Cap dia 5mm
Stem 5mm x 0.5mm
Smell none
A fibrillose cap, gills seem thick in proportion to size, spores visible on stipe look tan coloured.
It was found growing in a depression in the turf, and covered by grass overgrowing the sides of the depression.
My guess wood be towards an Inocybe sp.
Your comments and observations welcomed

Les | Hi,
probably nothing like it , but there is a picture in Jordans encyclopedia of fungi (page213) of Entoloma strigosissimum that resembles this in appearance and description ,
unfortunatley there is no picture of the gills,

| | | Re: Small but perfectly formed - Inocybe? That is a good suggestion, but unfortunately in the description of the gills, Jordon states: "...... close".
The photo shown here would seem to indicate they are "distant" - still could be an Entoloma though with that twisted stem.
I think we're all baffled on this one.

| | | Re: Small but perfectly formed - Inocybe? Oops, forgot you mentioned Tan at the beginning.
Mind you, other people have previously mentioned the 'colour of spores' accumulated on the stem of other fungi which turned out not to be spores, also the gills here do appear to be "not the right colour" for producing Tan spores, and don't ask what the right colour is !!
I think the only way we shall find out what this is, is if you can find a white plastic plant label stuck in the ground nearby saying "Mykonik was here - this is Inoloma fluffyoma"
