| | | is this an inocybe sp ??? can any one put a name to this one ?
found in clumber park , growing in scattered groups in various locations
it is the same colour throughout including the flesh and spore print, and has a slight mealy smell,
i had it as inocybe lacera, but phillips book says the gills are white at first then clay buff with white edges, which don't match this one(some younger specimens had the same orangey brown gills also), am i on the right track with inocybe or is it something else altogether ?

Inocybes - if indeed that is what this is - are extremely difficult and only a fraction are shown in Phillip's.
Even if you sent in a photo of the shape of the spores, that would only narrow it down to about a third of Inocybe species.
Can't be of anymore help I'm afraid.

Brian | Hi Brian,
I think this Gymnopilus penetrans, the spotted gills are characteristic as this the habitat of woodchip or dead wood.

Neil. | thanks for that , i'm having trouble getting the right genus let alone which one it is!!
maybe when my microscope arrives i might be able to obtain some spores from one and have another go, there are always plenty of these around in clumber!!

Andy | Hello Andy,
thanks for the id
ive had a look in phillips book at gymnopilus penetrans and it looks very much like my samples, and the description fits very well,
i will put it down as "gymnopilus penetrans (possibly)" to be safe!
