| | | One for ID please These were growing in profusion across a recently mowed stretch of grass. It was the site of an archaeological dig a couple of years ago, so very disturbed ground.
Spore print is black/dark brown. |

| | | Re: One for ID please I don't think so. I looked it up, but the photo of Candolleana I've got shows something a lot less robust, and the gills are much paler, almost white, especially in the young ones. My fungus has brownish gills even in young specimens, and is quite chunky (a technical term).
Thanks anyway. |

| | | Re: One for ID please I confess I feel a little aggrieved, having read the correspondence about missing contributors, when I get little or no feedback to my posts.
You have something of an issue you all need to think about, which is that there is a lot of cliquy backbiting going on, which may leave some people feeling they are on the fringes.
As Bob Dylan didn't say "The experts don't need you, and man, they expect the same".
Hope this is sufficiently controversial to get at least one response. |

| | | Re: One for ID please It is a known fact that identification from photographic evidence alone is always open to a lot of conjecture, and the so called experts can be a bit dismissive of us novices who strive to enjoy this subject without having the same experience and knowledge, yet still wish to learn without being ridiculed for our efforts.
David
P.S.Even the experts had to start out sometime as complete novices !
