| | | Russula emetica? The Sickener... Hi
Wondered if you could tell me if this is a Russula emetica? It was found under Scots Pine on my front lawn. Thanks. Jane |

The stem of the Sickener is pure white, I would say this is most probably Russula rosea (formerly lepida) The Rosy Brittlegill.
There are others very similar so that is not a definitive answer.

Its not the Sickener and its not Russula rosea the latter species grows in association with deciduous trees. Unfortunately there are a few Russula species that fruit with Scots Pine that may have a pinkish stem, though I suspect you may have R. xerampelina here. Another is R. sardonia though this tends to be more a purplish-brown. If you collect the specimens, note whether the stem goes a honey brown colour upon handling. The fruit body after some time should give off a crab-like smell, if so you have the species I have suggested. If it does neither of these, it will mean considering other species.

Neil. | Sorry Neil, buggers these fungi hey? It's only I collected R. xerampelina with Scots Pine over the weekend and those in the pic matched mine nicely. He say's scratching his head, wiping his eyes and yawning out of his deep slumber.
