Oudemansiella mucida - Porcelain fungus

Hi folks

I found this growing on a fallen tree trunk about 2 minutes from home. I'm sure they are Oudemansiella mucida, the Porcelain fungus. They have a white spore print, slimy (very) cap and were growing in great numbers on a couple of tree trunks.



Can anyone confirm for me please?

something like this then...? Before you ask David, no I didn't haul out my big heavy books to do some weight lifting, I'm purely relying on memory. Now there's a thing, the old grey matter actually working??

There again those books could have been useful piled against the tree to help you get on eye-level terms with these beauts

It seems to be a good year for them. I've seen lots in places I've never seen them before. It helped that gales earlier this year bought down lots of beech branches.

Definitely need to remove the pellicle and even then not reputed to be worth the effort. Can't say I've ever tried them, though a first for me last week was Beefsteak Fungus par boiled then sauteed in white wine with garlic and shallots
