| | | Unknown peziza and possible Red Data List Can anyone help with these.
The first is a Peziza with a stem
There are one or two "non Peziza" types with a stalk but the asci tips of this one turned blue in Meltzer
The second I thought I had spotted a Mycena with a mould on it I found one or two and then spotted the darker one.
The final one found on the edge of a conifer wood. Spores on the stipe show pink and they fit with Rhodocybe genima a Red Data List fungi.
Is there anything else this might be before I get too excited
Mal
Ps I have just spotted Helvella macropus in the A-Z and it is a good match

| | | Re: Unknown peziza and possible Red Data List Well the asci tips of many Peziza species turn blue with Iodine, but I don't know if it's the same for Meltzers.
As you say, the second is Helvella macropus.
Not sure about the third. It has that Lepista/Rhodocybe look and you could probably separate the two by the smell. I don't know of any strong mealy Lepista species.

| | | Re: Unknown peziza and possible Red Data List Hi Mal,
I reckon you guessed right there with 2 & 3, if you saw pink spores there is not much else this could be.
Nick - when people talk about Iodine turning Asci tips blue, they are usually talking about Meltzer's reagent as this contains 0.5g iodine.

| | | Re: Unknown peziza and possible Red Data List Ah, okay then, thanks Neil. I'm still a massive novice with chemicals That doesn't narrow it down then due to many Peziza having this reaction with Iodine. For what it's worth, aesthetically, it looks most like Peziza cerea but it's probably not that. |

| | | Re: Unknown peziza and possible Red Data List It just goes to show you cannot always go on first appearances The pink on the stem is not a spore deposit. I left it overnight to get a better deposit and it is WHITE
Now that has taken out Lepista and Rhodocybe what might it be
Nick I mentioned the reaction because the tips of the asci on things like Helvella acetabulum or others with a stalk do not turn blue so they are ruled out.
