B-L woodland on limestone
I was attracted to this fallen twig by the white bobs. Handlens used to check that the are not eggs of some sort, then noticed the sporangia.

I was lucky to find this stage in the development of the sporangia

and finally, a taste of the wildlife that inhabits these minute Myxos

I had to do a bit of cropping to get this image.

I hope JP can help me out here, but I believe that this is Stemonitis axifera.

I have to say microscopy, but you are certainly close if not spot on ID.
nice images showing the remarkable transformation they go through,
Not finding many at the moment, and so far no mature specimens on petri
dishes

Some excellent images showing the various stages in the life cycle - it would be hard to believe they are the same thing without the evidence as seen in your photos.
