| | | unknown Imature Bracket Have been noting this bracket on a Quercus rubra for a few years.
Has a desicated old bracket at the moment ( unidentifiable ), took this shot during the summer.
Thought originally that it is a Ganoderma, possibly resinaceum.
Now having seen a picture on AIE, is this an imature Inonotus dryadeus?
Appreciate your thoughts.

I think it could have been nearly right with your first guess. It might be an immature Ganoderma pfeifferi. Even at this early stage dryadeus tends to show droplets

| | | Re: unknown Imature Bracket I don't think we can really tell one from the other at this stage, all I know is that G. resinaceum favours Oak and G. pfeifferi favours Beech and from the onset is 'coated in a characteristic yellow beeswax-like crust' which is not apparent in this photo.
As you say this was on Quercus, I still think you guessed right first time. (or shall we call in an adjudicator ?)
