| | | what is this fungi with a black stem ?? any one put a name to these ????
found growing in rough grass at side of a footpath in clumber park,
stem is around 5 to 6 inch tall and the cap is about 3 to 4 inch across,
no distinct smell to it,
i have spent hours looking through books and websites and have not found anything close to this one as yet,
another one on my ever growing list of unknowns .
thanks, kiltoncomp |

thanks, kiltoncomp | Don't want sound boring but I think what you have there is Armillaria the ring is right, the light scaly cap is right. I have seen Armillaria with this dark stem before, generally on older specimens.

Neil. | Hi Neil, many thanks for the id ,now you have said its a honey fungus , i can see the likeness in the cap , but i would still not have connected it with being a honey fungus, ive been looking for the id since i found it back in 2006 !,
ive only ever found one specimen of armillaria before and it was nothing like this one !
thanks again ,

Andy | Hi Andy,
its not boring!! as i said in my reply to Neil (fairplay) i would never have put two and two together and come up with it being a honey fungus !
thanks again ,
