| | Really chuffed with first Ceps Hey up, I'm new here just thought I'd share a pic of my first Ceps with you.
I went wandering in the woods during my dinner hour and was chuffed to find this little lot.
The one in the middle was riddled with maggots unfotunately and was a different species so didn't bother munching that one.
However the others tasted absolutely gorgeous.
Will be back for more.
Also found some very pretty tiny A. Muscaria and loads of stinkhorns.

| | | Re: Really chuffed with first Ceps Cheers Ron, looks like a good forum - can't believe i've not come across it before now.
BTW The ones that I ate I got double checked first
Wouldn't entertain eating them otherwise (Drove 30 miles just to make sure I wasn't mistaken on ID (Would've been cheaper to get em from a shop!))
Just noticed I'm not 'sposed to link to external images Sorry bout that.

Nice finds, why do you think that the one in the middle is a different species? Probably just a more mature Cep I would of thought? |

I thought Bay bolete but the pores didn't stain blue - Like you say perhaps it was just an older Cep??
Not to fussed tho as it was riddled with maggots. |

Not to fussed tho as it was riddled with maggots. | As they get older Jon the pores turn from white to yellow with age.

| | | Re: Really chuffed with first Ceps Totally agree with Stewy on that, I'd never really eaten one when it had got big before this year and i was surprised to see how yellow the pores got. This forum is definitely the best on the net, i cant wait to get back to the UK so i can see what's changed over the last two weeks. happy hunting all.

| | | Re: Really chuffed with first Ceps Cheers guys - went back today and got a couple more goodies.
Quick question about Boletus Edulis - I found some very small examples (cap about 1-2 cm diameter) and am wondering how long it takes for them to reach a larger size (cap 10cm Diameter).
I guess there are many variables that could effect this. Any Ideas?
If not I guess I'll check back daily until and find out for myself.
