| | Help with two please.. Tricholoma? Both of these were in mixed woodland, but both associated with deciduous trees.
The nearest I've got for the first is Tricholoma saponaceum - Soapy Knight but I'm not totally convinced, eg I don't recall it smelling soapy.
The next one I thought was a very small boletes until I looked underneath!!
My best guess is Tricholoma sulphureum - Sulphur Knight but again I'm not convinced.
Any other contestants to throw into the mix welcomed. |

| | | Re: Help with two please.. Tricholoma? Can't see how you missed the sulphur gas smell Steve, you have to shove them up your snout until only half the stem is showing - one in each nostrill.

Originally Posted by NickCantle I make the second Tricholoma sulphureum, what with the yellow gills that are widely spaced. | That confirms my closest match Nick, but I'm struggling to find an image of Tricholoma sulphureum that matches all features. ie the cap is a very matt yellow and the stem seems to be more orangy than most, the gills look OK but not as sulphury as most. The stature seems more squat than the average also.
The mycelium growing partially up the stem does appear to be a feature of Tricholoma sulphureum
But I don't recall the smell.. "odour very intensive, repulsive, sickly, carbidelike" possibly because I don't remember sniffing it!!!
I'll give it a tentative ID of Tricholoma sulphureum but I'm still open to exploring other suggestions. |

| | | Re: Help with two please.. Tricholoma? I agree Steve. I don't think this is Tricholoma sulphureum! but at the moment not sure of an alternative ... muse time
John
edit:
The lack of smell may suggest Tricholoma flavovirens .... or ??

| | | Re: Help with two please.. Tricholoma? Compared with the photo in Fungi of Swiss' they seem a very good match for sulphureum, but it's possible there are signs of a very early attack by a Hypomyces.
