| | | ID for a huge shroom? Hello everyone
This is my first attempt at uploading and displaying an image so I hope I've got everything right! I spotted this large fella in Wisley Common (Surrey) back in October 2006. The top of the fungus is about 9" in diameter, and it stood at about 12" in height. For reference, the mobile phone hitching a ride is around 4.5" in length.
I've had a go at trying to identify this beast but with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks

It used to be called Lepiota procera (might be chloropyllum ??? or some such - can't find this now, must have dreamt it).
The "snakeskin" appearance that you can see on the lower stem is characteristic.

This particular one was only a few metres from the side of the 6 lane A3. Even if I had known what it was, I'm not sure I would have had the heart to uproot and cook 'im
