Thanks for that. I have just gone back to my photos and fortunately one of them shows the bark of the conifer. I've just read some of the previous posts on Postia caesia - there does seem to be some debate, but it seems like conifer wood makes it a certainty.

I've learnt a lot from these forums this week and this weekend I will know that I need to identify the trees too!
