| | | Amanita conformations I was in the woods just outside of Havant today and have many a mushroom for I.D's but in this particular thread i'm just sticking to the amanitas
This first one was found growing in mixed "open" woodland approx 8 meters from a large oak. I suspect it to be a Amanita excelsa/ spissa... it had grey worts and was a rather chunky fleshy old mushroom....
the absence of any pinkish bruising and the base of the stem has given me reason not to suspect it to be a blusher
The next i suspect to be either a Amanita citrina "false death cap" or amanita gemmata. These were found growing around some spruce....
this was a younger specimin...
finally just thought i would share my first Amanita muscaria of the season even though it does look like i feel (i have a cold).... |

The first one is excelsa/spissa and I think the second one is citrina. You missed out the one feature that would have made life easy the smell. Citrina smells strongly of raw potato.

| | | Re: Amanita conformations Amanita citrina is rarely found with conifers(not never) BUT gemmata is rarely found at all and prefers Pinus not Picea. Citrina is 20 times more common so without positive proof I would still be inclined to call it citrina.
