| | | Puffballs or what
Noticed these a few darys ago on a fallen, part rotten beech limb, i did think they would develope into puffballs (maybe) but so far they havn't changed.
There is apporaching 100 (i exagerate not) though the slugs have grazed a few.

| | | Re: Puffballs or what Yes they are similar.
This is where WAB can be so usefull on a national level i've no doubt
a few Myco mysteries will appear.
If we can solve a few by documenting progress that will be good
and certainly interesting.
Never did come up with a clear idea of this one from last autumn. It was certainly odd as the
pores were horizontal rather than vertical.
And as it was beside a track i was concerned about general public destroying it so i removed
it with a chisel (november).
well now a new one is appearing from the same place, so maybe an answer will be forth comming.
Cheers J.P.

What ever it is, it is still undeveloped, so keep it under observation.
Can you see the irony in your sentence ''........... concerned about the public destroying it, so I removed it with a chisel'' ?

Neil. | It seems correct to say it's udeveloped but it had been like it for weeks
(i think it was dry and confused as to which way was up/down)
As to the irony i was all to aware but thought if this is something different
then best take it home and dry rather than have it booted of the tree.
I took it with the intention of showing it to an eminent mycologist at the
end of october (which i still intend to do).
Anyway of the nice suprises it looks like regrowth is happening and this time
the emerging mass looks to have a top/bottom differentiation. (will take
photo later in the week).
Quite proud of the dried specimin, with out the photo no one would believe
it's orientation.

Cheers J.P. | JP have you cut one in half to at least see if anything is developing internally?
