| | White mushrooms on recovered log for ID plz As per usual I'll post this here before I try to identify it
I brought this log back from the woods hoping it would act as substrate for my Stone funghi, see.. Polyporus tuberaster on unknown substrate
(it was dark at the time I collected it so I'm not convinced in daylight that is Sycamore anyway!!)
and to my surprise these little beauties popped up on it..
I know from my shiitake log that a shock is required to encourage growth with some wood growing mushrooms, I guess it signals fresh substrate in the area, in the form of a fresh fallen tree, so the bumpy transport may have aided the growth.
So we can answer the Zen riddle.. Quote: |
If a tree falls in a wood with no-one to hear it, will it make a sound?
| Yes the funghi will hear it!!
back to the chase
Stem: hollow, 40mm
Cap: white, 35mm
Gills: beige (poss turning black),
Spores: grey?? (hard to tell)
Smell: pleasant, mostly mushroomy
Any help appreciated. |

| | | Re: White mushrooms on recovered log for ID plz Thanks guys, and welcome to the forum Iain Psathyrella candolleana was my best fit from my photo collection too..
I wonder if they too will turn into Lacrymaria lacrymabunda 5 days from now Lawn Funghi for ID help please
Interestingly this photo looks pretty similar to Lacrymaria lacrymabunda http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/P...ndolleana.html
Hopefully I'll be able to photo the changes as they mature.
Thanks for the ID again, I shall keep an eye on their development. |
