Silly season Is uppon us, my brother (a biology teacher) ate common earth balls on sunday then phoned me up to ask if i wanted some of the truffles he had found, After this episode he may read the Christmas and birthday presents i have given him and do some research first. Horse Whisperer author, Nicholas Evans, critically ill after eating wild mushrooms - Times Online
Be warned all, there are a good dozen indicators that make up a recognition but that's only half way to a strong I.D please take care and dont get carried away with yourselves learn the nasty ones first.

| | | Re: Author eats destroying angel VERY POORLY Horrific way to die. By the time the symptoms appear it's too late. No known antidote. Liver and kidneys destroyed. Just not worth taking a chance with a mushroom looking 'mushroom'!

Jim | Its not worth taking a chance with anything you are not sure of. BE SURE you can identify before you eat.

| | | Re: Author eats destroying angel VERY POORLY With the recent poisoning I thought it might be useful to share this composite image of the Destroying Angel - Amanita virosa.
They were quite common at Clumber Park during 2006

| | | Re: Author eats destroying angel VERY POORLY Thanks for the link John, I've never seen one in Kent, the upland habitat preference may explain why not, we are around 180 metres above sea level here & I'm not sure if Kent really gets above 200 metres. If anyone knows of somewhere in the south east i may get a chance to see one I'd be grateful.
Lovely photo they do look very handsome specimens.

The latest news via the Guardian is:
'According to a statement released by Evans' literary agent, they responded well to the treatment, and a family friend who visited them this weekend said they were all four walking about and were in a cheerful and positive frame of mind'.

It's the old saying .. If you are not 100% sure then don't eat them! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
