I've seen them there before, but it was nice to see some younger specimens.
Regards, Audrey. | There are very few things I get jealous about ..... but this is one! I would just love to 'clock' this species - well done Audry - you've seen a few cracking things this year ........ |

| | | Re: Fungus of the day! Well my species for the day is Amanita strobiliformis. Described as rare/uncommon in most books, I feel privileged to be living just 5 minutes from their ideal habitat.
I went a'walk today, and I saw , no joke, 30+ specimens in a 300m stretch. Some of which were tennis ball size with baseball size basal bulbs. Some were growing in the middle of the path, and I mean you can see these things from 100m+ away.
Here's one that I picked to study last week. Sorry for phone image quality but I needed the 40D and Sigma 105mm for scale ...and still not the biggest I've seen...a scary sized 'shroom. |

| | | Re: Fungus of the day! Yesterday I confirmed G resinaceum (pic in original thread) but also found a nice fresh specimen of
Piptoporus quercinus
Today one which has been on my wish list for a long time
I think I might give up for the rest of the year I don't think I could improve on these.

Mal | Well done Mal, but I'm sure you will improve on them shortly

| | | Re: Fungus of the day! Very envious of that P. quercinus Mal!
Mine for the day (and I'm going to go back and hopefully photograph them today) are Calocybe ionides which I've only just recently found. I'll pop some piccies back if I have a chance tonight |

Not the rarest or prettiest, but I got excited as I never expected it in my city garden, under my hedge.

It was only leafing through Andreas Gminder's Field Guide that I chanced to find a pointer to the ID for this scruffy little fungus.

| | | Re: Fungus of the day! FOTD for Sunday was the Shaggy Ink Cap. A local patch is throwing up hundreds at the moment. Quite spectacular, in their own way.
