| | | Re: Unidentified Bolete, possibly B. badius In Badius I always find the pores are really tightly packed, unless there has been severe insect damage. The pores on this specimen have the look of a sponge which is another reason for suspecting it is not a Bay Bolete. |

I haven't even heard of half of them, but it's all academic now as the question was asked back in 2008 and microscopic notes were probably not made or kept.

In this case there is no var  but hopefully watch out for a photo of luridus var rubriceps in the next edition of British Boletes
