| | | Lactarius species And I thought a Lactarius exuding carrot coloured milk was going to be a doddle
The habitat was all wrong for L. deterrimus

David | It is one of the of the sect. Plinthogali Lactarii David - and they are all complete bug*ers to identify - you need to look at the spores. L. azonites has been suggested and is a possible canditate (but I have to say this looks a little pallid !)
Any idea what trees it was associated with ?? That sometimes narrows it down. And on what soil as well ?? And how quickly the milk turns that pinkish-carrot colour - slowly, fast, uniformly etc. ??
And, does the milk change colour when isolated from the gills / flesh or only when on the gills / flesh (allow it to drip onto a microscope slide and watch it !)

Nick | They were on chalky soil amongst oak, birch, maple and holly and a lone redwood, across the path it was all conifer. The carrot colour appeared instantly apart from that I can't expand further except that these were also found in the same vicinity:

David | The first is surely young Clitopilus prunulus !
the other two are an immature Bolete and the third doesn't have enough detail to tell what is is (another Lactarius perhaps ?)
