| | | Mycena from Ashridge On yesterday's foray with Julie at the Ashridge estate we found these two species which are as yet unidentified:
1. Morphologically this matches the description in C&D of a rare N African Mycena, but it 's hardly likely to be that in the deepest depths of Herts:
2. The inset on this image shows where fingerprints have flatten the contours of the thick pile of powdery spores covering this cushion-like species:
Any steers towards ID's would be appreciated thank you

I think the second one is Tubifera (maybe ferruginosa)
the first I don't think is a Mycena but can't give any guidance as to what it might be.

| | | Re: Mycena from Ashridge Yes, the Myxo is Tubifera. The immature state is a nice red colour.
As for your first, I'll have a go at Psathyrella. |

David | Hi David been checking out our finds yesterday...
How about
1. Mycena flavoalba - Ivory Bonnet
2 Hypoxylon multiforme - beech woodwart.

| | | Re: Mycena from Ashridge Thanks Julie - Mycena flavoalba - Ivory Bonnet was actually what I was referring to in my opening post and further reference to Phillips, together with C&D, now convinces me we are on the right path with this one (and possibly the greenish one from Tring last week)
David
Not sure about #2 yet???? |

Sorry to be a pain but I still think it has far too many lamellae to be flavoalba
In B&K it says 15-19 (reaching the stipe not including lamellula) and if you look at your Phillips the photo shows the same sort of number. Yours shows at least double that number.

| | | Re: Mycena from Ashridge Tubifera ferruginosa is looking good for #2, which I have found in its reddish immature state but was not convinced the mature brown 'cigars' were evident in this find especially as they literally blew away in a dense cloud. On closer inspection the bunches of miniature cigars can be seen bottom left of the inset, and these specimens must have been ripe for sporulation.
